![]() ![]() Bruno is crippled and uses a goat and cart to move himself around, begging for coins to share with his surly father, but the children soon strike up a friendship with him. Jamie and Lorna meet a strange woman dressed in white who hides from them, as well as a young boy named Bruno. Windy Hill sounds appealing, and so the family make the move, only for the children Jamie and Lorna to find that the surrounding countryside is more mysterious than the house itself. She believes the house is haunted, and Mr Giddings (on hearing that the Carvers have previously stayed in a reputed haunted house) beseeches the family to stay in his home and declare it "un-haunted" to his wife. Giddings has always wanted to live in the old farmstead, but after only a few nights there, his wife refused to stay. ![]() Set in 1851 and first published in 1968, "The Ghost of Windy Hill" concerns the Carver family, who move temporarily into a farmhouse on Windy Hill at the request of the owner. ![]()
